I've extended the group-by-year code to the random pictures view. Now you can view a sample of 40 random pictures from any year we have pictures for (a slightly useless feature for years prior to 2000, since none of the early years actually have more than 40 pictures - maybe you could change that by uploading some of your old pictures).
So go time travelling and rate some old pictures.
