I remember very clearly some pretty empty nights at Sanctuary, and especially SinCity waaaaaay back when.  But as patrons, we were stubborn bastards and kept going, kept flyering, kept posting pictures, and kept telling our friends to go, and *ta daa*, look at it now!  They line up for SinCity down the block at 9:00, and it's 4 YEARS in the running now.  There's only a handful of SinCity nights I've ever missed (mostly when I was in NZ).  I like SinCity because I have a costume fetish.  How many other places can I comfortably get that fix?  Think I'm gonna let it disappear?  Nope.

Moral of the story: If you love a night, GO.  And tell everyone you know to go.  And then keep going.  Maybe  pick up a few flyers and spread 'em around.  Post about what a great time you had in your online journal, or in a chat forum, etc.  Every little bit helps.  Your reward for helping promote it (because that's what you're helping doing, by giving it a great review and getting people to go) is that the night will still be there for you.

;)

Because people tend to not neccessarily go where the music is fun so much as where they have fun because it's busy.  Thus the new nights which start up featuring some new format that people have been asking for have a very hard time surviving the birth process.  Everyone wants to wait until it's busy or until all their friends go and give it a good review before they go themselves ... and by then it's too late and it closes.

Last Radioaktive This Friday .... (Jan. 7th)

Yep, it's true. At 7 Alexander [Rodaos], Decades is shut down and now we will be closing out Radioaktive as well. Though Radioaktive Fridays was attended well enough and could easily still survive on it's own as is, the general attendance of the venue over the course of the week wasn't nearly enough to make ends meet for the owner and a new direction definitely needs to take place. As of this weekend they have an Adult Entertainment license in place and will be featuring a more top 40 / rock format for music on the weekend, plus of course go-go dancers & private dances complete with VIP areas. Unfortunately this format change has to cover the whole weekend or none.

We considered running Radioaktive under the new venue format but in my very strong opinion it has to be one or the other and that a half alternative night half strip club themed night just wouldn't fly for a second. Thus this Friday is the last Radioaktive. There will be no cover all night, a free drink for everyone upon arrival, and a blend of Radioaktive-format tunes with the addition of some current top 40 & rock to break in the new direction.

It is unfortunate it comes to this, but anyone who's met or interacted with the venue owner knows he is a clean, honest person and really got behind our scenes and gave it an honest run. In fact over the course of opening the venue he tried a variety of different formats and was never able to establish enough of a draw in this very difficult time for nightclubs. In all likelihood the venue will be either shut down or sold within a matter of months.

Thank you to all the people who made Radioaktive a fun gathering of freaks and partiers every week, to Cyrus the owner for giving the alternative scenes a home on the weekend, to Cyril, Bruce, Matty, Niall, and all the DJs who put time and energy into getting the music out there.

Now get on down this weekend and say goodbye to the joint because after this Friday, we're outta there!

Cheers

Yeah, this is pretty sad.  The night was rather well-attended, and Saturdays, althought not as much, was SO MUCH FUN!!  Isaac mentioned that it is the fate of the club as a whole, not just our nights that are being shut down.  Times are just hard for them right now.  I'm really going to miss being able to go clubbing on weekends.  :(

According to Isaac's post on egroups:

"...There will be no cover all night, a free drink for everyone upon arrival..."

how sweet is that... :P

Man I'm gonna miss this night. Loved the casual vibe.
