Hey all,

This isn't the first forum I've been on and I'm a horribly uncommitted person when it comes to commiting to..well, anyhting really. So posts will more often or not fluctuate wildly depending on my mood or attention span at the time. But I have come a-searching and a-prowling for one and one reason only: I am so ~freaking bored~ with the lack of anything to do that if I don't find an outlet soon I will be forced to feed the bunnies voracious appetites of the slavering pocket lint! Yes....the bunnies! Dare you do this to them?!

As a side note, there is very little to do in Kamloops...it sucks you dry...like zombies. Or maybe giant mosquitos.

But!! To get to my oh so fantastical point that was so long in the getting to it part....!!! I am going to Victoria for a week! Wow! Annnd...I was wondering if there was anything remotely interesting happening there as, from what I've been told, it is a city great in old people, indyfilm and artistic culture which is for the most part good (though old people sometimes scare me with the cane shaking and the hip breaking), but small in any sort of sub-culture nightlife to speak of. This is a bit of a downer.

However, given that it is a larger city and somewhat more culture prone than my little dust-bowl in the interior I was hoping someone out there or in here might perchance want to be so kind as to give me some sort of advice or direction as to what is good to see in Victoria and what is not and if there is any sort of active night life that doesn't involve hooters tee shirts, sombreros (or cowboy hats), or mechanical bulls. I was actually thinking something more fetishy but, I'm interested in all. Artsyish is good too as I most likely will be somewhat awake during daylight hours too. Are the museums worth seeing? I'm -not- an Emily Carr fan *mutters* How about the parks and churches? Arcitecture is a must see of course. And yes, because I am openly admitting to be being a first timer Victorian tourist *le sigh* Any good shoppings? ^^ *purr..*

If anyone could respond to this before say, the 21st when I leave, it would be muchly muchly appreciated.

Oh also! Hi everyone! Nice to meet you! Rawr...^^ Oh ya, conclusively,  rathar than drone on about myself as most introductions are prone to go I have decided to include this increadably detailed picture which should answer all of these questions and make very good sence. I hope you will be satisfied.

Till the next post!! Dun dun duuuun....

Woot,

Thanks for hte prompt reply guys, this gives me something a bit more tangible to work with than I had before. I was aware about Prophecy actually *chuckle* Ironically it was looking for just such an event that allowed me to stumble into this infinately interesintg little forum you have here and realize that it had been cancelled.  :/

It almost makes me wish I had an excuse to stay a week in Vancouver instead *chuckle* But hey, travelling  is still travelling right? No matter how awkward te experiance ;p I will defiantely check out that little alley, I mean hey, if your off a street called Pandora you can't help but have some sort of seedy history worth looking into. Peopled with monsters, or monstered by people...something like that ^^ Also that coffee night might be defiantely worth making an appearance too if its still happening, if just for a meet and greet (I don't really caffine ;p), theres too many people in the world to call yourself learned if you don't go out and meet them. So thanks again for the input and if you think of anyhting please do let me know ;)

I'd love to be able to tell you all about Victoria... but sadly I've only been there once, and the knowledge I gained is not likely to be of much help.  On the other hand, check out the links on the home page of this site, they'll send you to GothVic.  Or punch in gothvic into google.  The first thing that comes up is a Yahoo message board (which by appearance seems greatly different from the other GothVic, but seemingly the same people).  The FAQ looks helpful, but if you want to check out something more recent, and maybe exchange words with a breathing person, check out the message boards.

As to your freaking boredness.  I can easily relate.  Qualicum isn't exactly the hub for youth sub-cultures.  What's the saying they use to describe the local residents... "Newly wed or nearly dead."  Though from what I've observed it's mostly the latter.

PS

Atratus, I still can't stop laughing at your new sig.

Well, my Victorianity (?!) is very outdated... I lived there 20 years ago... but is rather resistant to change...

The one and only regular night in Victoria in recent years (Prophecy) is no more. There are a number of people the gather for coffee Friday nights at QV's Café at the corner of Fisgard and Government St (by the Chinatown gate). Try the GothVic FAQ for more stuff, but it is a tad out of date, too... it still has Prophecy listed as a regular event despite its demise.

Tourist-wise, Victoria *never* changes. The provincial museum is always good. The blocks bounded by Fisgard on the north and View on the south, Wharf on the west and and Blanchard on the east is the area where you'll find the most intesting shopping - record shops, small clothing stores, etc. *Do* check out Fan Tan alley between Fisgard and Pandora, half a block or so west of Government St. In the 1920's it used to be a seedy alley with opium dens, brothels and gambling. Now it is just interesting and there is a good record store tucked in there.

Any maybe someone who has been to Victoria more than 10 times in the past 20 years will pipe up and provide some useful information *nudge*
