A few questions...

I have a few queries to pose to the group if I may.  Please understand that I am still relatively new here, so if something sounds stupid or you think I should know it already, I probably don't and would appreciate a good explanation :)

1. Where is the best place to go to meet people that are involved in the "scene"?  My wife and I have never really been anywhere close to a nightclub together, and we've been joined at the hip for five and a half years.  Understand that she's not really all that into the scene (yet), and an all out fetish ball would probably scare the crap out of her - not to mention get *me* in a whole lot of trouble :)

2. Are the forums usually this sparse?  I have been watching a few topics for the last couple of weeks, and I've noticed that there is just a small group of dedicated posters.  Did I miss the rush, or is this just normal population here?

3. I have some talent I could use to benefit the scene - where can I let people know about it?  I am a welder/fabricator by trade, and I am also not too shabby at computer graphics - both in 2D and 3D canvasses.  Could the website or any of the clubs/shows use someone like me to help the scene out?  Also - for those interested - I have posted a picture of my metalwork in the Visual Arts section - if you want something made from steel, just say the word :)

4. I run a website myself that has an active forum community (a global one), but I have not posted a link or included it in my sig because of the adult content on the site.  What are the rules about that kind of thing here, or is there an FAQ I can read to get the answers myself?

Thanks for taking the time to read my questions :)

Thank you kindly for the club info :)  I shall begin researching the venues you've listed.  I am still wondering if a link to my site in my signature is ok or not... I think you missed that one.

Radioaktive (Fridays) or Decades (Saturday) at Rodaos (7 Alexander Street, what used to be the Twilight Zone) would be good club nights to get you feet wet. The club itself lends well to conversation, with the dancefloor being on a different level than most of the seating and the pool table it's not hard to have a conversation over the music. The music Friday leans toward industrial and the heavier side of the genre. Decades is a retro night that bills itself as "A New-Wave Affair", Smiths, Wire, Nick Cave... that sort of thing.

Sanctuary Sundays at Sonar (what was once the Town Pump on Water St. in Gastown) is the third option. The lighting is darker and the music a little harder to talk over, but if you are a smoker, the smoking section is a very social place away from the volume of the dancefloor. The music at Sanctuary leans to electronica, EBM and synthpop, with some retro thrown in.

Sundays are a very established night (running over six years now) with a varied crowd ranging from 19 to 40, with the mean being probably mid to late 20's. Fridays you'll find the crowd is somewhat younger, as you would expect with heavier music, but there are plenty of regular attendees in the over 30 range. Decades is still establishing itself and has an intersting mix. There seems to be a lot of spill-over from the EMO crowd at the Marble Arch. Mean age is probably similar to Sanctuary, and where someone not "gothed up" would be most comfortable.

None of these are fetish nights by any stretch of the imagination.

This forum is still picking up steam. The DarkVancouver forum (you'll find a link to it by going to the links section in the main navigation at the top of the page) is considerably more active than this one. The DarkVancouver board is on ezBoards and seems to attact more "walk-in" traffic as it were, and has been around longer than this one. The main draw here has always been the photo gallery (which is down for now because of the unwelcome attention). There is a little more activity in the mailing list, but it is much less active than the van-goth mailing list (a link can be found on the homepage)

As far as helping with the club nights, Isaac (DJ Pandemonium of Radioaktive, Sanctuary, and Sin City), Bruce (DJ Contrasoma of Decades) and Aaron (Mr. Dark of Sin City) are the people to talk to.

Another thing you might want to check out is the Cruxshadows show at the Picadilly Pub coming up Friday the 22nd.

And, of course, missing Sanctuary on Hallowe'en night would just be crimial.
