The BC economy is about to get worse with a 7% tax increase. Effective July 2010 that's basically what the new HST will be. Currently 7% PST is not charged on all products and services, but 5% GST is. The HST will replace both taxes as a combined 12% rate and be charged on essentially everything from food and haircuts to funerals, airline tickets and heating bills.
On July 21, 2009, B.C. Information and Privacy Commissioner David Loukidelis ruled that the amount and type of information and the length it is retained by the "Barwatch" system used in many Vancouver and Victoria nightclubs is in violation of Section 7(2) of the B.C. B.C.s Personal Information Protection Act.
