We are super excited to present MMXIV by Dylan Neuwirth; it is an electric exhibition of net-speak inspired youthful vernacular memes and phrases rendered in cursive neon. The two-dozen pieces include “ good morning haters”, “burn your blog”, “lol”, “kill all artists” and “will you molly me”.
Described by Vanguard Seattle as ‘ very-of-the moment … leery and humorous, aesthetically appealing and ambiguous in content. It is the best sort of minimal art – deceptively simple but impossible to unpack in brief with regard to it’s content”. Described by the artist, “ MMXIV is an attempt to establish post human identity in a civilization of spectacle defined by fear, doubt and isolation beset by the search for meaning. Always unsure what to do with it. Except to take a selfie”
Dylan is my new BFF on the Internet; we have been official Facebook friends since April 28, 2013. When I first saw MMXIV posts in Jan. 2014, I responded with “ “this work is so good and I am seething jealousy” . I love this show – it’s accessible and post-punk, he has taken digital ephemeral chatter and has crafted it into immortal objects of glass and neon gas. I am basking in its glow. Paul Wong
Come experience this must see, this is cross-border shopping at its best. This is the second to last art exhibition in our gallery space at 1965 Main St, the building is fated for the wrecking ball.
This is his first solo show in Canada. Dylan Neuwirth is a Seattle artist obsessed with the interweb, he is a conceptual interdisciplinary artist working on a multitude of forms and contexts: sculpture, net-art, photography, video and neon.
