†THE DARK EIGHTIES HISTORY†
Nikki Nevver conceptualized and hosted the first major DARK EIGHTIES show in August 2014 with two dark electronic Vancouver bands, Demian (https://ddemian.bandcamp.com/)
and the now defunct Party Fears Two (https://partyfearstwo.bandcamp.com/).
Since then, The Dark Eightes has hosted some of the best dark and eighties influenced bands inside and outside of Vancouver; namely spectres, Koban, Weird Candle, Brutes, Sur Une Plage (featuring Joshua Wells of Black Mountain), † BLACK MAGIQUE †, Infidel, and The Bellicose Minds.
Through tribute nights, the Dark Eighties has paid homage to some of the best bands of the 1980s, including New Order, Depeche Mode, The Cure, The Smiths, Jesus + Mary Chain, The Human League, Sisters of Mercy, Ministry, Killing Joke, and Bauhaus.
THE DARK EIGHTIES has included many guest djs from local bands and the goth Vancouver scene: DJ Evilyn Thirteen + DJ Pandemonium (Sin City/Madhaus), Vanessa Turner (who has been an extremely integral part of The Dark Eighties for the last year), Suzanne Hampton, Grant Francis Minor of Girlfriends and Boyfriends, Gabriel Black and Bianca Barr of Black Magique, and Jason Corbett of Actors.
Marc Godfrey of Shadowline fame has been our faithful supporter and doorman since we began, and without him, The Dark Eighties wouldn't be the same!
The Dark Eighties has been exclusively at The Astoria Hastings for the last year and will continue in the same venue to keep celebrating the darker side of the eighties, new romantics, minimal wave obscurities, goth, deathrock and even new eighties influenced music. Let's celebrate!
