Portland & Seattle Bid For Convergence 13!
Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington are two of the cities bidding for Convergence (annual Goth festival) next year. I'm especially happy about this because it's the west coast (of course) and a very do-able drive!

What is Convergence?
Convergence started as an annual alt.gothic news group convention that squished together hundreds of net.goths from around the globe into a single city for a weekend of socializing, booze, musical events and sweet debauchery. Convergence has grown beyond its roots since, unlike 12 years ago, every goth and his bat is online and not just on alt.gothic.
Each year it is held in a different city, chosen in a voting process a little like the Olympics, except that anyone can vote (previous Convergence attendees are registered to vote automatically and new interested parties can register per the instructions at the link below).
So far Convergence has been in Chicago (C1 & C10), Boston (C2), San Francisco (C3), Toronto (C4), New Orleans (C5 & C12), Seattle (C6), New York (C7), Montréal (C8), Las Vegas (C9), and San Diego (C11).
Voting registration information here: https://www.altgothic.com/faqs/voting.php
Deadline for mail-in registration is April 5th (envelope postmarked by April 5th). Not much notice I'm afraid, so move fast!
Personal note: I have been to two Convergence events now, and they are a LOT of fun. Plenty of shopping, bands, fashion shows, drinking, and socializing with new folks. I'm going to offer my support for the Seattle crew, and hope you will too.

By the way everyone, Portland won the vote and their official site is here:
I'm considering renting a van for the weekend and going with a group... perhaps picking up some Seattlites on the way. It all depends on who is interested.
Check the links above - each city has proposed a different date.

Many of you will remember when we put in a bid for this event to be hosted in Vancouver last year. The one thing that makes this type of event cool is that even though the drinking age in the US is 21+, people who are 18+ can still get in to the clubs to see the bands and dance the night away (you just can't buy alcohol if you're under 21). Portland and Seattle are totally on board with that, which is great because it's an event you really shouldn't miss. Just picture it - 1000 Goths in the same place at the same time, from all over the planet. The bands, the shopping, the fashion shows, the sight-seeing tours, and of course, the socializing. Having Portland or Seattle win is a real bonus for us because it's a lot cheaper to get there than anywhere else.
So keep your fingers crossed!
