World of Darkness RPGs

I was wondered if anyone here is into rpg games, both pen and paper and live action spefically White Wolf's World of Darkness series. Games like Vampire: The Masquerade, Werewolf: The Apocalypse, Wraith: The Oblivion and others.

I tried V:tM a couple times a few years back. I couldn't really get into it though. I'm more of a pen/paper fan than a live roleplaying type.

I do play D&D on occasion. Yes, I'll admit it. I'm a part-time D&D geek. :-) Not exactly the world of darkness series, nor is it very dark for that matter. But it's an RPG nonetheless.

I used to play V:tM Larp in Peterborough ON, back in '95-'99, and did the ST thing for half of 2000.  We had anywhere from 30 to 60 people at any one time.  We ran into the same problems that Valerian described, but last I checked, the game was still running.  Kind of frightening when you think about it.  It's almost 10 years old.  (shudder).  I also played in one of the older Toronto games for a while.  I even tried a changeling game in both cities at different times.  With the right group of people they can be so much fun... but when folks start to get too involved things get ugly and creepy in an unpleasant way.  Would I play again?  Maybe...  It would really depend on my chemistry with the other folks.  Not that I expect a huge crowd to be playing VLARP in Qualicum Beach.  :)

Once upon a time my ex and I ran a Vampire: The Masquerade game with a group of our friends (back in '94-'95), on a fairly large scale.  Our highest membership was about 75 people at one point - we'd started by playing covertly at the clubs, but as the crowd grew, so did the venue.  I even rented a Boy Scout Hall for a while to accommodate all the people!  We had to limit the public game to once a month, with coterie leaders updating us with info from smaller private games.    It was a lot of fun, but also a real logistical headache.  Plus, I could never understand people who'd get all bent out of shape because something happened to their character that they didn't like.  They took things WAY too personally, and even used out-of-game information (cheated, basically) to help their characters get around things.  That's why we stopped.  Other people made it not be fun anymore.  So we decided to play Wraith, just a handful of us, but even that fell apart due to too much whining.  Still, some of the closest friends I currently have were made in those days.

Would I play again?  No.  Maybe a special one-nighter, but only with the character I had built up from the bottom-of-the-totem-pole 10 years ago... but there's a few people who wouldn't let me do that without them though, heh.  Mr. Dark and Mediavictim would kill me!

;)

I know that Aaron (Mr. Dark) is currently involved with a V:tM group from time to time, if you're looking for a game maybe seek him out.
