Resturant nightmare! help?

FancyNancy.'s picture

Hello everyone!

So a bunch of us kids are planning an evening of fine dining
before the Emilie Autumn show. I've looked everywhere for a nice place to eat and have had no such luck so far and I am running out of time. We need to find a place that..

- Is adult orientated, there is nothing worse than bratty unsupervised children terrorizing the restaurant. I just don't like kids..

-Serves European food and is between Broadway and waterfront station....so downtown.

-Has Private booths with a fine selection of wines and isn't like 50$ for a tiny chunk of meat and some random sauce I'm not sure if i should eat.

-Allergic to seafood.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Stay Classy,

Nancy.

Hi Nancy,

Have you considered Earls? It is adult oriented and I find the ambiance quite pleasing, though I am not sure if it would indeed suit all your needs. Their website shows two location on West Broadway, though if that is out of the way you will have to excuse me, I do not go into Vancouver much. If you want to take a look they have their menu online as well. http://earls.ca

Hope that helps.

There is also an Earls at Robson and Bute downtown, above the London Drugs, which would be closer to the venue.

The Earls on West Broadway is a block further west from there, at Broadway and Fir. Not many booths at that location though.

Steamworks in Gastown, which is right beside Waterfront Station is another option, and walkably close to the Rickshaw.

The Keg on Thurlow between Alberni and Robson is a good place, much like Earls, but darker decor and less loud.

I'm also a fan on the Cactus Club at Broadway and Granville, same building as Chapters, nice funky goth-friendly decor (although I've been told they have taken down their stuffed crows) and meets all the other criteria. The peppercorn steak there is my favourite.

There are also several options in Yaletown, near the new Roundhouse Station of the Canada Line. There is a new Earl's there that I haven't been to yet. Moxies is also of a similar vein and in the same area.

And for something very close to the Rickshaw, there is the Alibi Room at Alexander and Main - it is a little more in the "$50 for a tiny chunk of meat and some random sauce" realm of things and dripping with film-industry pretentious ass-hats, but it is only a short walk straight up main (past the police station) to the Rickshaw.

The Spaghetti Factory on Water Street is also close by, cheap-and-plentiful, but in no way guaranteed to be brat-free.

The Water Street Café, kitty corner from the Steam Clock, is pretty good and more reasonably priced that it would seem from the outside. No booths, but it is quiet and it is possible to book a private room if you have enough people.

Thank you for your suggestions,

I love the Old Spaghetti Factory! Though every time my family and I visit we get stuff in the corner as we scare everyone ha ha. :)

I will defiantly take these ideas into mind when picking a spot. To bad about the stuffed crows, those things always make a lovely souvenir.

How about La Bodega, Spanish (not Mexican) restaurant on Howe and Drake, they have a whole section upstairs for private/big parties, you'd have to make a reservation though...it's not to expensive coz you can just order a bunch of pretty filling tapas...and sangria is good...
