Could be. I didn't see him last time he was here. I wonder if there is a "home field advantage" aspect as well. After all, if all the faces up front were friends vs. a bunch of strangers a person is just bound to be more comfortable. Not that it wasn't a good show, just less ad-libbing than I say in NYC.

Voltaire, November 14 @ Sanctuary
Well, I'm suffering from sleep deprivation today for it, but I enjoyed the Voltaire show last night. As for Dandi Wind... not so much: Imagine the exorcism of Pat Benetar posessed by both Nina Hagen and Oko Ono.
I found it interesting that some people, mostly rivetheads, were grumbling about Voltaire talking too much and the "lameness" of the music. Apparently they didn't get that someone who gets billed as "The Clown Prince of Goth" would be more of a comedy act than a musical performance and that someone touring to promote a book might talk. And I guess it stands to reason that rivetheads aren't going to appreciate a singer that is essentially crooner (and can actually sing, as opposed to shout) playing an acoustic guitar.
Last time I saw Voltaire was at CBGB's in New York and I did notice that his energy seemed different. He seemed considerably more relaxed during the performance in New York. There was less genuine ad-libbing in last night's show and he seemed a little run down. That may have had a lot to do with playing in Seattle Friday, Portland Saturday and then Vancouver Sunday - that's a lot of back-and-forth in three days.
The highlight, certainly, was Isaac getting his randomly generated goth name: "Father Diablo, Fornicator of the Clergy". That one is going to stick.
and if I may add something....
I work in book publicity, and looky here, Voltaire's also just released a [url=http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/1578633222/qid%3D10991...!
