Too old to join the scene?

Hi,  I'm 31 and have always been intrigued by the music, style, and culture of the goth scene. I could be wrong, but when I search the net it seems like for the most apart everyone is in their late teens or early twenties.  Do you think I've most likely past my potential glory days of gothin it up?  :)

I grew up in Powell River,BC and now live in Kelowna. Not much if any of a goth scene in either place to say the least.

Hey you! There is no reason ever to feel too old to be part of something that genuinely intrigues you.  We have allot of 'elders' in our scene here in Metro Vancouver.  I think, for the most part, age is totally irrelevant. I myself am 36 and a long-time member here. And I see you grew up in Powell River....well my friend, I grew up in Gibsons Landing. Sunshine Coasters all the way my friend!

Hmmm, being picked out as a freak is something I've never been able to pull off. Probably because I'm of the rare breed that mingles in with several  different subcultures.

well, i am hoping that i haven't missed the boat... just in this last year i have had a need to do things that i haven't done before and to do things that i have done before, but a long time ago... so, i hope that one is never too old...

well i mean the goth movement really started in the late 70s early 80's so i'm assuming most of the those people are in their mid to late 30's or farther down the road.... so who cares how old you are.... you can still dress in black :)

There are plenty of us that are too old to be trusted.

But please, don't try to "become goth". If there are aspects of the culture you like, appropriate them and make them your own. Add to it, make your own rules and be yourself. If at some point someone calls you gothic and you feel the need to deny it that's when you'll know you're one of us.

I could be wrong (or just out of the loop, since I quit going to the club events about a year ago), but the scene in Vancouver seems to be a slightly older crowd. I would estimate it's more late 20's to early 30's, and a few "elder goths" kicking it around as well.

I've lived in other places where the crowd was most definitely a younger age group, but I find the age range in vancouver is a bit more broad.

Personally I'd say that, like anything else, you're never too old.
