GST Cut

As many of you already know, the Stephen Harper administration will be implementing a 1% reduction on the GST starting July 1st. I recently heard that an independant poll showed that the majority of those polled believe that a GST cut is not neccessary and that the cuts should be to stuff like income and property taxes instead.I was very young, maybe 10 years old when the GST was originally brought in by the Brian Mulrouney administration, but it was brought in to pay down the national deficit. 15 years or so later, the deficit is not smaller, but larger than ever. Jean Cretchien vowed to get rid of the GST altogether once he got in power, but did nothing to remove it. I would personally like to see the GST put towards what it was meant to be put towards, whether it be 7%, 8%, or whatever. If not, the lower it is, the better in my opinion. As a taxpayer, I'd much rather my tax dollars go towards useful things like schools, road upkeep, police and firefighters, which is what income and property taxes are used for. What does everyone else think about the GST cut?

As a young woman with a (slightly above) minimum wage job who has to struggle to even make ends meet even though I work full time...  I would rather have income tax done away with.  The more I make, the less I bring home.  What sort of motivation is that to work hard?
