Same-Sex Marriage "e-Referendum"
Attention Canadians:
Should Parliament pass Bill C-38 to legalize same-sex marriage in Canada.

The Defend Marriage Project of United Families of Canada has their "e-referendum" site up and running again. This is a group slanted against allowing gay marriage in Canada, and have set up this site in an attempt to tell the government how many people are outraged about it. Well, if you want to tell the government whether you support same-sex marriage or not, please take a moment and cast your vote.
"The National Marriage Petition Website Was Recently Attacked in an Effort to Log Thousands of Fraudulent Yes Votes. Additional Security Has Been Installed and the Site is Functioning Again. Please help spread the word to those you might have referred. Tell them that the site is functioning again; so if they tried to vote and could not, they should try again.
It was easy to determine that these were fraudulent votes because all were voted using variations of just a few Hotmail e-mail accounts and by the huge volume coming in per hour. About 4,000 of these fraudulent Yes votes were registered before all voting was suspended. These fraudulent votes have been eliminated from the database. In the eight days that the referendum was posted before this attack more than 100,000 legitimate votes had been cast, with Nos in the majority by about a 3:1 margin."
It goes by postal code, so if more than one person in your house votes, only one vote will be counted (unless you are at a different postal code, i.e., work). Let's show them what we think by making these guys lose face fair and square!
When the vote closed due to "attacks" after being open 8 days, the voting was No: 76,077 - Yes: 32,115 (without having the site widely spammed anywhere where same-sex supporters would have been able to find it, until the 6th day). Now after only a 8 hours of being re-opened it stands as of this moment at No: 79,828 - Yes: 40,245. Seems to me the "yes" votes are on the rise....
Please cross-post, tell your friends and family, AND VOTE!!!!
That's a drag. :(
In my non-religiously-oriented mind, I see it as two people, who are in love, and want to be recognized as a legitimate couple. Period. Sexual orientation is a non-event to me. Be what you are, be together, be true to one another. To be honest, I don't think the government really has any right to say who you can be monogamous with and who you can't. BUT... The real sting is, when there is no law to protect same-sex couples, in the event of a death there can be some serious legal hassles with the deceased's estate, and with custody of dependants. And that can be an utter nightmare. I'd sure like to end that kind of crap, so of course I voted yes to their silly little SURVEY (e-"referendum" my arse!).
However you *can* help. Please encourage your Canadian friends and family to visit the above website and cast a vote. So... vote from school, vote from work, vote from the internet cafe you're sitting in, and vote from home! If the bill eventually passes here, it may influence other countries that are sitting on the fence to do something about it.

This is the primary reason I won't vote Conservative. They've even threatened to use the "notwithstanding" clause if necessary to prevent gay marraige. We are going back to the dark ages so we need to get involved and make sure that tolerance is allowed.
I always like to goad the "marraige is a sacred bond" people with the stats:
"Figures on adultery have risen: Two out of three married men today reportedly commit adultery at some time during their married lives, while only 50 percent did so in the 1940s....The number of women finding sex outside marriage (today) is about 50 percent. (Why Wives Have Affairs, Parade Magazine, Feb 18, 1990, p. 4)"
So yes Marriage is sacred and don't look at mr. and mrs. wifebeater or mr. and mrs. cheaters because it a religous tenet, etc.
Whatever. Get involved. Stop intolerance.
