Somethng wicked this way comes.

I was finally able to make it over to the mainland for a night of drinking, dancing, and general merriment.  I have to admit that my suspicions about the people of BC were quite accurate…  You truly are a friendly and inviting bunch.

I nearly tread down the wrong path on my way to Sonar, when a kind couple directed me to the right path (it was actually the left path, but you know what I mean :)).  Once in line outside I hade the chance to meet many more friendly people; all ready for a night of good times.  The security people at the door were also very polite (though I don’t know if I should be offended that I was only required to show one piece of ID ;D).  The bar staff was great, helping me select a desirable beverage after I had missed with my usual choices. The location itself was also quite impressive.  I don’t think I’ve been in such a beautiful establishment in the last five years (maybe even longer).  But the thing that most pleased me, the thing that stood out amongst all this splendour, the thing that just made my night was… the patrons.  You guys are fantastic.  I am, by nature, a very shy person.  I’ve been known to be a little timid when it comes to meeting new people.  Try imagining that as I walk into a new place, all by my lonesome, for the first time ever.  Everyone who I went to talk to was at the very least polite and cordial, and most were just plain friendly.  It was probably one of the most encouraging nights out I’ve ever had.

So I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to those I met at the Sanctuary (a place that has well lived up to its name).  Thank you so much for making the new guy feel at home, especially when he was so far away from anything he knew as home.  I hope to see you all again some time soon.

Most Sincerely,

Swoopguy

(aka the bald, blue demon)

PS Thanks to Atratus and Valerian for hosting this site, without which I would not have been able meet so many nice people.  Hopefully next time I’ll be able to thank you in person.

Well, bald blue demon, I'm sorry I didn't get to meet you (or anyone else from this forum) but am glad you had such a wonderful time.  So did I.  It's been a while since I've been out, so it was, well, much needed.  I agree, Sonar is a fantastic club (I especially like the bar selection, something which Savage Garden was sorely lacking!).  And the decoration and costumes were phenomenal (trust the goths to not be half-assed about costumes).  And to respond to Atratus, I only have Toronto and Vancouver to go by, but I've found the goth scene in general to be welcoming, or at the very least, tolerant, of new people who are open-minded and respectful.

Thanks to all for making it such a great night!

Having been clubbing in Toronto, New York, Chicago, L.A. and Seattle, I have to say that Vancouver has the most appoachable scene. There seems to be an unwritten rule here that the whole point of going out to a club in the first place is to be around people.

[color=pink]Wow, that was such a beautiful letter.

Well, I must say that your letter, besides being heart warming, was anxiety settling. I just moved here 2 months ago from Toronto (the land of smog and snob). Although Toronto has it wonderful aspects I must admit that friendliness isn’t one of them. I was hoping that I could have the opportunity to explore some new places and meet some interesting folk in Vancouver but I haven’t been able to get out of my hole-in-the-wall dorm room and explore. As well, I am terribly fearful of a Toronto-like reception upon my entrance into a goth or rock club (being one who resembles Scary Spice, I have a tendency to standout… I wonder why::)). However, your letter provides some relief and for that I thank you. Maybe I will follow in your brave lead and venture into the Vancouver core alone as well.

Stay beautiful and brilliant and I look forward to meeting you one day.

What a delightful letter!

I'm sorry to say that I didn't meet you at Sanctuary, but I hope when you come back  we may rectify that situation. So glad you had a wonderful evening. Take care, Amena :)
